Back Where It Started – Avon Controls Partners with IMO Precision Controls

I'm really pleased to announce that Avon Controls is now an official distribution partner for IMO Precision Controls, giving us access to IMO's full range of controls and automation products.

This one means a little bit more to me personally.

Before starting Avon Controls, I spent over four years working for IMO as an Area Sales Manager, so I already know the products, the people behind them and the level of support they provide extremely well.

To now be working with IMO again, but this time through Avon Controls, is something I'm genuinely pleased about.

It's not just another range for us

When I started Avon Controls, the aim was to make buying controls and automation products easier for control panel builders, machine builders, OEMs and systems integrators.

IMO fits into that perfectly because the range covers a huge amount of what our customers use every day.

We're talking variable speed drives, HMIs, PLCs, power supplies, circuit protection, contactors, overloads, industrial relays and timers, surge protection, push buttons, isolators and much more.

For our customers, that means another significant part of their control panel BOM can potentially come from one supplier.

And because I already know the IMO range well, we're not simply putting products on a website and waiting for somebody to buy them. We can actually help customers select the right products, cross-reference existing equipment and provide technical support when it's needed.

We're putting our money where our mouth is – and holding stock

One of the things that's important to me with Avon Controls is actually having products available when customers need them.

There's not much point telling customers we're a distributor for a manufacturer if every time they place an order we're then ordering it ourselves.

So we're investing in IMO stock here in Bristol.

We've already got a growing range of IMO products on the shelf covering the sort of components our customers regularly need, and we'll continue increasing those stock levels as we learn more about what our customers are using.

That includes IMO's drive ranges, circuit protection and other everyday control panel products.

The idea is simple: if you need it regularly, we want to have it sitting on our shelf ready to go.

The new Jaguar NXG is a big part of that

One IMO product we're particularly excited about is the new Jaguar NXG inverter drive.

I've already spoken about the NXG because one of the first things that struck me was just how compact it is – some models are roughly the width of a can of Coke.

But there's a lot packed into that small footprint.

The NXG offers dual Heavy Duty and Normal Duty ratings, up to 200% starting torque, SIL3 / PL e / Category 3 Safe Torque Off as standard, Fire Mode, Modbus RTU and USB-C configuration without needing the main AC supply connected.

There's also an optional communications card supporting PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP and EtherCAT, and IMO backs the drive with a five-year warranty.

We're already holding Jaguar NXG drives in stock, including both single-phase and three-phase versions. Our current online range includes 20 Jaguar models showing in stock, covering applications from smaller single-phase drives right through to larger three-phase units.

More than just drives

IMO is probably a name plenty of people associate with inverter drives, but there's a lot more to the range than that.

For a control panel builder, that's where I think this partnership becomes particularly useful.

Rather than buying the drive from one supplier, circuit protection from another, the power supply somewhere else and then raising another order for the control gear, we can look at the complete BOM.

That's something we're already doing for customers at Avon Controls.

Send us the list and we'll look at what we can supply, what we can cross-reference and where we can potentially reduce both the component cost and the number of suppliers you're having to manage.

A partnership I'm genuinely excited about

It's still relatively early days for Avon Controls, so becoming an official IMO Precision Controls distribution partner is another important step forward for the business.

There's also something quite nice about working with people and products I already know so well.

I spent more than four years representing IMO and helping customers with their products. Now I get to do that again, but this time with an Avon Controls shirt on.

We've got IMO products on the shelf in Bristol, we're continuing to increase the range we're holding and we have access to IMO's full product portfolio when customers need something we don't currently have in stock.

Most importantly, we've got the product knowledge to back it up.
